During these two days, you will explore the Samtskhe-Javakheti region, known for its rich historical and natural heritage. You will visit the unique cave city of Vardzia, carved in the 12th century, and the medieval Rabat Fortress in Akhaltsikhe. The region is also famous for its mineral springs in Borjomi and its stunning landscapes, including volcanic plateaus, lakes, picturesque mountain valleys, and national parks such as Borjomi-Kharagauli. This region combines ancient architectural monuments with breathtaking nature, making it a compelling destination for travelers.

PROGRAM

 

Day 1. 07.09.2024

Departure from Tbilisi.

The first stop er. This site offers stunning views of the city and its surroundings, attracting history enthusiasts and admirers of beautiful landscapes.will be the mineral water park in Borjomi. Every time you pass through here, it's tempting to take a stroll along the lively river in the shaded park. It’s the perfect place to start exploring the region.

You will have time to enjoy a coffee and a tasty bite at local cafes.

Next, we will head to Rabat Fortress.

Rabat Fortress in Akhaltsikhe is a majestic structure that blends Georgian, Ottoman, and European architecture, dating back to the 9th century. Inside the fortress, you’ll find museums, gardens, churches, and a mosque, making it an intriguing cultural and historical cent

 

A walk through the fortress will be truly enjoyable, and you'll have the opportunity to take excellent photos.

Next, we will visit the Sapara Monastery. Founded in the 9th century, this monastery complex is known for its architectural harmony and unique frescoes preserved from the Middle Ages. Surrounded by green hills, the monastery offers a tranquil atmosphere for reflection and relaxation.

We will then transfer to a cozy guesthouse in Vardzia. Here, you can look forward to a delicious dinner and rest while enjoying views of the cave city.

 

Day 2. 08.09.2024

A delicious breakfast and then—off to the caves!

Vardzia is an impressive cave monastery complex carved into the cliffs of the Erusheti Mountain in the 12th century. It is a unique historical and architectural marvel where you can explore hundreds of caves, churches, and living quarters, as well as enjoy breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. Vardzia offers all travelers a deep dive into Georgia’s rich history and the stunning nature of the region.

 

After the tour of the cave city, we will head to a Meskhetian family for lunch. You will sample local dishes, participate in a baking workshop, and, of course, taste the unique Tenili cheese made right in this region. Tenili cheese is a traditional Georgian cheese produced in the village of the same name. It is renowned for its unique taste and texture and is listed as part of UNESCO's intangible cultural heritage.

After a delicious lunch, we'll head back to Tbilisi.
